My DIY Art Thanks To LIttle Green Notebook

A little while back I was super inspired by this DIY art by Jenny at Little Green Notebook.  She always has amazing art in her home at a fraction of the price you would expect her to pay.  So I decided to take her tutorial and get busy at Casa McGrath.

Step one to find a location - Easy! Enter blank wall that was feeling pretty bland.  I loved having the mirror sit over the teak console but every time I looked at it it would annoy me as it wasn't popping as much as I wanted it to!

Next step was to find some artistic inspriation.  I loved this trellis fabric swatch I had but it was no where big enough to use as a wall hanging.  So I found a trusty scrap booking paper from Etsy, saved it to my USB and had a A1 blueprint printed out for $4.  Yes that's right $4!  The sales assistant was hesitant to print it as it would only come out in grey scale and with some pixilation but I love the line variation and colour.

The last step was to put up my print and then style the space adding in other elements that brighten up the space.  Of course, the bar tray came back out and I included a pastel love print for a bit of light colour relief.

Voila!  So thanks to Jenny and her brilliant idea which has totally transformed our dining space. I love the pop of pattern and the colour palate works perfectly in our home.  So I'm curious - would you do something like this in your home?

PS - A big hello to all the LGN readers who have popped over.  You are too kind!  Feel free to like me on Facebook for more fun updates or check out some other home decorating goodness here.

  4. It looks lovely- really polishes off the space. It gives you that wallpaper look without the spend. LGN has inspired more than one DIY in my own home and I love how you took her idea and made this one yours. Well done!

  5. I've been trying to find a wallpaper end roll that had the same rich colors and pattern as a piece of art paper that I have. I'd given up looking as I can find nothing like it. Now I'm going to scan it in and print it out to wallpaper a little area when you walk in my front door. What a great idea!!

  6. Love! Where did you find the great trellis print that you started with?

    1. The original trellis was a discontinued Westbury Fabrics sample (I was so sad when I found out it was discontinued!) And then I used this scrapbooking paper to mimic the fabric: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/75180220

  7. Lovely! The trellis print is classic and fresh. Lenya, can you explain how you mounted your "wallpaper" and also how you attached it to the wall? If you have a site for the scrap booking paper from Etsy, would love to know the source.

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! To answer your questions: I mounted the 'wallpaper' with good old Blu Tak! Not the most sophisticated mounting tool but it did the job. The source for the paper was here: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/75180220 I've used this for a couple of things and it is a great mix of prints! Take care. xxx

  13. Hi Lenya
Found your post via LGN and love your prject with the paper and the sunburst mirror. I'm also an Australia and was wondering where you had the image printed, do you think officeworkd could do it. I have also been eyeing off that mirron on Amazon for a little while now and just wondering who I could convince to bring it back to Melbourne for me from the US? Is it very heavy?
Sorry for all the questions, hope you can respond.
